PMAFC: The begginings

History
The idea of creating a Football Club in PMA first came after a good game of Soccer at the Borromeo Field. Seen as an excellent workout regimen, some PMA Officers (Classes '91, '92, & '93) who "love the game" banded together and tried to pit their skills against the CCAFP Soccer Corps Squad every Tuesday and Thursday afternoons. Seeing the need to promote the game of Football not only in the Cadet Corps and the PMA community but also in the City of Baguio, the PMA Football Club was formally organized by officers, cadets, enlisted personnel and a few civilian employees who shared a common passion for soccer. The club was admitted into the Baguio City Football Association before the end of 2005. By February 2006, the 1st PMA "Canteen Cup" Football Festival was organized to highlight the Alumni Homecoming with only the men's and women's open categories. Gaining popularity with the alumni and their families, alumni and children's categories were added the following year. The Club is also the organizer of the annual PMA "Football Cup" which started last October 2006 in celebration of the PMA Foundation Anniversary.

The PMA Canteen Cup
The idea of a unique cup that represents both football and the military institution was born from an informal brainstorming at the Borromeo field after a soccer game among the cadets, officers, enlistedmen and civilians sometime in 2005. The pioneering group of enthusiasts includes Major Joel Paloma, Major Dodjie Belloga, Major Jose Demar Pauly, Major Elmer "Tex" Suderio, Lt Gino Gervero, Captain Jonjie Juguilon, Major Hector Marana, Mr. James Aswigue and Tsg Allan Piandong to include tyhe cadet Soccer Corps Squad under Cdt 1CL Manalo. The group coined the idea of the "Canteen Cup" as a unique representation using the ever famous canteen cup to grace the alumni homecoming every February in the form of a two day football festival.
The title “Canteen Cup” is a two-fold term. It displays the premium of the members of the long gray line on the significance of sportsmanship and importance of discipline as members of the profession of arms, which is symbolized by one of the most vital “all-in-one” Government Issued (GI) equipment in the AFP, the canteen cup. Likewise, it captures the very essence of any sporting competition in the spirit of fair play as symbolized by the “Cup” itself.

The canteen Cup itself symbolizes the rugged feature of the cadets and the military as a whole. Likewise, it coincidentally relates itself with the family of cups that symbolizes victory such that of the football's World Cup. Before, the canteen cup would only connote survival, water, coffee, noodles (mami) and even a degrading role of an ash-tray; but now it acquired a brand new stature. After having gone through a meticulous face lift from "Kuya Erning" , the canteen cup has acquired a symbol of strength, excellence, sportsmanship and fair game in football arena. After a couple of years of existence, the PMA Canteen Cup has lured the participation of football enthusiasts not only from Baguio City but also from Pangasinan, Tarlac, Pampanga and even from Manila.
In 2007, the PMA Canteen Cup has deliberately included the participation of kids in order to contribute to the grassroots efforts of the Philippine Football. With the realization that the kids are hope and future of the Philippine Football, it is the commitment of the PMA football Club to always include competition categories for the kids.

The Club
The club is composed of not only the officers and cadets but also of the enlisted personnel, civilian employees and their families. The following are the members of the club:
a. Officers - The main organizers are the officers who were usually football players during their cadet days. Missing their younger days, the officers used the club to reminisce their strength, and glory of the past and perhaps to stop whining the ever infamous phrase..."During our times". The club also include non-alumni officers who equally love the game.
b. Cadets - The main bulk of the club members are the cadets which are also members of the Soccer Corps squad and trainees. They are also the main work force during the conduct of tournaments. being involved with tournament preparations is a very good training for the cadets to learn how to plan, organize, manage and conduct similar activities.
c. Enlisted Personnel - They are the most reliable working force for the club. They are also the unsung heroes during the conduct of major activities.
d. Civilian Employees- Several civilian employees are also football enthusiasts; as such, they are also the mainstay players and efficient work force during tournaments.
e. Families - Football is contagious. Military personnel usually bring football virus to their respected homes and eventually cause football infection and fever to their kids and other members of the family. That's the reason why the PMA football club includes the families of officers, enlisted personnel and civilian employees in its roster.
